We love our Wednesday night LUG program (LUG stands for Living Under Grace). Not because we like our band or think the skits are funny or even because of the teaching. We love LUG because we get to see our students lead and disciple other students. The beauty of LUG is that it can work anywhere! Both smaller youth groups and massive ones can reap the benefits of student-led discipleship. If you are skeptical about a High School student’s ability to disciple and impact a Middle School student, just watch this video:
If you are interested in starting your own LUG, we have everything you need right here. Obviously, you do not have to call your program LUG, but if you are interested in creating programming where your students can disciple others, then you are in the right place! Check out all the free materials below. You are welcome to use them, change them, print them, or anything else you want except for sell them.
LUG Related Events: LUG is not the only thing we do with our Middle Schoolers. Check out all of the weekly LUG Related Events.
LUG Timeline: We have a very consistent flow during LUG. The entire night is two hours long and divided into 3 portions. See an example of our detailed timeline here.
- The first portion is 30-35 minutes long and includes some fun and upbeat music, a skit, games, a crazy dance, and a student testimony.
- The second portion is about 50 minutes long and is our most important time of the night. This is when the students break off into their various Discipleship groups.
- During the final portion, there is a 20 minute teaching of the Bible and 15-20 minutes of incredible response through worship.
LUG Leaders Guides: Every week we give our small group leaders this guide so that they can have a foundation to prepare their lessons with. Find guides we have used in the past by clicking here.
Small Group Studies: We have created several books that encourage and empower students to study God’s Word and go deeper in their faith. These books are the basis of our small group discussion time during LUG. You can download some of these books free of charge by clicking here or you can e-mail Lori@gfc.tv if you are interested in purchasing some hard copies.
LUG Sermons: The week before a group studies a passage of the Bible, we teach them some things that God has shown us. For instance, on August 24 we taught on Joshua chapter 1. On August 31 they studied and discussed Joshua 1 in their small groups. After small group time, they came back as a large group and we taught on Joshua chapter 2. Then, they will study Joshua 2 during the next week. Do you see a pattern forming? It’s pretty simple, but it ensures the kids are truly learning and going deeper into God’s Word. Check out the past sermons by clicking here. We also teach on the same passage in our High School ministry so that our student leaders can grasp God’s Word on an even deeper level. Check out our High School Sermons by clicking here.
Student Testimonies: We record many of our student testimonies. It is amazing to see how God is working in teenagers! You can see their stories by clicking here.
Emergency Procedures: Curious about how we handle emergencies? Then just check out our Emergency Procedures.
LUG Head Expectations: Our High School leaders are held to high expectations. They need to be if they are going to disciple our Middle School students! Check out our LUG Head Expectations.
LUG Adult Expectations: Our Lug Adult leaders are also held to high expectations. Check them out here.
