Uncharted Leader’s Guides

We’re proud to release a new semester of Leader’s guides! This series includes 11 weeks that explore 3 Wisdom books of the Old Testament. 4 weeks are given to Job, 3 weeks to Proverbs, and 4 weeks to Psalms. We love this series and believe it will help students recognize the benefits of a life committed to Christ.

It will help them answer three questions: What if God is here? What if God knows best? and What if God is good? Obviously, the answer to all of them is OF COURSE! God is here, He knows best, and He is good, but sometimes we forget to ask how that impacts our lives. This series seeks to help students process the hard questions of life and respond by worshipping the Sovereign one.

Series Introduction

Have you ever been exploring?  It is one of my favorite things to do, whether on a hiking trip or a road trip, I love going off the beaten path or the map to see the interesting places and things on the journey.   My family could tell you, however, that sometimes those excursions do not work out too well.

Often we get lost or waste too much time.  But what if you had a guide, someone who knew the paths and the things along the way worth seeing?  That is the thought at the center of this series called “Uncharted;” it captures the heart of the explorer.  The Bible tells us that God wants to take us on an amazing journey to places and happenings that we will miss if we follow the path that most people take.   This series will investigate 3 major books in the section of the Bible known as Wisdom literature (read the rest of the series description below)

Wisdom literature uses few words to communicate great truths.  In the Wisdom books – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon and Ecclesiastes, we find writings that tell us things about life from the perspective of those that have lived through it and seen that following God really does work best.   Far from pretending that everything is ok and that there is no pain, Biblical wisdom tells us that there are hard things in life, but we can call on God in those times and trust in His goodness, power, and plan.

We will ask three questions as we study this series.

1) What if God is here?  As we wrestle with the book of Job we will ask if God is in the hard things of life. Job is a tough book.  It deals with great pain and God’s total control in life. While Job ends well, there are still unanswered questions.  Questions like, Why does a good God allow pain? Or why does God not stop the Devil in his tracks? Job does, however, answer this question: Where is God in the midst of my tragedy and what can I learn in the pain? We shall explore this question and find the answer together in our 4 weeks in Job.

2) What if God knows best?  The book of Proverbs is full of wisdom from the wisest man of his time. What it says about relationships, money, and our character can help us greatly in a world where it seems everyone has an opinion. If God does know best, which we believe He does, then we should listen!

3) What if God is good?  The writers of the Psalms examine life, its good times and its hard times, and emphatically remind us that God is indeed good. God cares for us, we can tell God our fears and hurts, and He wants the best for us.  Because of God’s power and desire for us, following Him is the best path to a good life.
