Generation Change Lent Projects

The Generation Change Mission Statement:

“We realize that God is sovereign and people make choices that often hurt themselves and others. Those two things do not stop us from acting, they are the reason we do. We are Jesus followers who act, Jesus followers who are committed to sharing the hope in our hearts with those who need it. We will not watch people die without hope when we have hope. We will not let people be held in lies while we know the truth. We will not watch people go hungry while we feast. We will not let people be slaves while we are free. We will not let our friends live without Jesus while we know him. We can’t change everything, but that does not mean we will not do what we can. We will not wait on the government to make things right, when we can do something ourselves. We do not hate those who disagree with us. We are not shaking our fists at the heavens. We are simply doing what we can, what we must, what we love. We follow Jesus and we want to see the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven, and we will pray, and serve and love, until it is.”

2011 Projects

During the season of lent our students are fasting from various things that typically cost them money. With the money they will be saving, they will be giving towards one of the following four organizations. We encourage you to join in on this incredible venture as we seek to put the broken things of the world back together through the power of Christ. To join the effort, simply e-mail lug@gfc.tv. We do not stop with lent, however. You can see how we are working to be a generation of change by clicking to see our Projects Throughout the Year.

Ideas for fasting:

1) All drinks besides water: Instead of paying for Starbucks or a Coca-Cola, save your money and drink from the water fountain.

2) Fast Food: Say goodbye to Chick-fil-a and McDonalds and save your money by packing a lunch instead.

3) The Grocery Bill: Work with your family to cut the grocery bill by 10%. Eating PB & J can go a long way!

4) Expensive Prom: Guys, make a reservation with the Hop & Ride and at Waffle House. Girls, host a dress swap party or head to the thrift store (lucky for you, vintage is in).

1) Stop Sex Trafficking: Students will be raising money to help rescue victims of sex trafficking in Atlanta. The money will go towards organizations like Wellspring Living and NightLight who will give them a home, teach them about Jesus, and help them earn income on their own.

2) Project AK-47: Hundreds and thousands of children are forced to become soldiers every day. Students are raising money to help Project AK-47 put a stop to this so that children may be free to live a happy life.

3) The Dream House: The Dream House is a place where medically fragile children can live and be taken care of. It is one of a kind and gives kids without hope the chance to live every day. Money raised here will go to help cover the expenses of taking care of the medically fragile kids.

4) Help End Homelessness in Atlanta: Students will give their money to Atlanta Union Mission to support the cause of giving children and families a home that is safe from violence and the dangers of living on the street.
