Why do we do Generation Salaam? We want everyone to enter into eternity knowing and believing in the full redemptive work of Christ. Second of all it’s really fun, third it works. This is open to students and parents. If you have always wanted to get involved but not known where to start- this is a great place. Here are some more answers to common questions about Generation Salaam.
Generation Salaam FAQ
Q: What is Generation Salaam?
A: Generation Salaam seeks to bring together people from the East & West and Christians & Muslims for friendship and conversation about peace and the Kingdom of God.
Q: What does Generation Salaam Clarkston do?
A: Generation Salaam Clarkston goes to multiple apartment complexes in Clarkston to become friends with refugee families from around the world. The most established element of Gen Salaam is our kids program. We have four different kids programs where refugee children come to do crafts, play games, watch skits, and learn about the straight path to God – Jesus! We also love to build friendships with adults. We do this primarily through conversational English classes and job-skill trainings such as business classes and sewing projects. We put on a number of events throughout the year such as a back-to-school celebration, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas parties, and kids’ summer camps.
Q: Why do you do these things?
A: As followers of Jesus, we respond to His “Great Commandment” to love God and then love our neighbors (Matthew 22:36-40). These neighbors in Clarkston (from all over the world) have become our dear friends. And as with all friends, we want them to know and understand the full picture of God’s love displayed through Jesus!
Q: What is the goal of Generation Salaam?
A: The first goal of Generation Salaam is to form genuine friendships with these wonderful Clarkston families. Our hope is to serve them in whatever way possible. Also, the families we befriend are from all over the world and have a variety of faiths – we’re friends with people who are Catholic, Protestant, Hindu & Muslim. In all of our friendships, we hope to point our friends to Jesus because we believe He is the only way into the Kingdom of God.
Q: What are your core beliefs?
A: To see a complete list of our beliefs, feel free to read Grace Fellowship Church’s Statement of Faith (which is on every Generation Salaam application). Here are three main things that we focus on in every one of our trainings:
1. We believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God.
2. We believe Jesus is the only way to eternal relationship with God.
3. We believe we need a new life that only comes through the Holy Spirit regenerating our lives into a new person.
Q: Do you believe Allah is God?
A. We believe there is only one God. Allah is actually the Arabic word for God. When Spanish-speaking Christians pray, they address God as Dios. In the same way, when Arab people pray (both Christian and Muslim), they address God as Allah.
Q: Do you believe Isa is Jesus?
A: Again, we believe that there is only one Messiah – Jesus. When Jesus is mentioned in the Qur’an, He is called Isa al-Masih (Jesus the Messiah in Arabic). This is similar to an Italian person calling Jesus Gesù il Messia. Although Jesus is mentioned in the Qur’an several times, we believe the best account of Jesus is found in the four Gospels (or the Injeel in Arabic). We wholeheartedly and unapologetically affirm everything the Bible says about Jesus, and we want nothing more than to help others gain a similar understanding, regardless of the language they speak or the country from which they come
Q: Is what you’re doing Biblical?
A:! In all we do, we seek to follow Jesus’ example found in the Gospels and point people to Him.. Our perspective in our relationships with these people from many faiths is rooted in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, “For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them… To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.
