Believe Leader’s Guides

Believe Cover

One of our favorite resources is the Believe book. It is an excellent study that clearly explains the Gospel.

We’ve noticed that sometimes students, even those who have been in church for years, struggle to explain the gospel in its simplicity. They hear so many messages and get a little confused by all the “Christianise” that they constantly need a refresher on the simple truth of the Gospel.

It is the perfect study for both non-Christians and veteran believers. We teach our students through this curriculum once a year and consistently see students accepting Christ and entering the Kingdom. We also see students developing a desire to share their faith because they are confident in what they believe.

Believe answers the following questions, among others:

1) What are the major belief systems in the world?

2) Who is God? How do we know who He is?

3) Why do bad things happen in the world?

4) Why are we separated from God?

5) What, exactly, saves us from our sins?

6) How do we receive the salvation that has been achieved for us?

Sunday’s Focus

There are a lot of theories on how to make Sunday interesting for students. “More games! More skits! More videos! More cool music!”

All of those things are great, but we must be careful to remember that those things are not the focus of Sunday morning. Students can go anywhere to find games, skits, and videos. They don’t even have to leave home now!

They need something more. They need God’s Word. It is compelling, life changing, and can captivate anyone. Check out this video for more:

When Being Outdone Marks Success

We are really passionate about discipleship here.

Jesus pronounced His Kingdom on the Earth through discipleship, and we simply cannot come up with better methods than Jesus. So I stick with discipleship.

Discipleship Defined

The word “discipleship,” gets thrown around a lot today, but how many of us know what it means? Some see it as Bible study, others as a relationship, and others just think it is a strange word.

The dictionary defines disciple as “a follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosophy.” That definition is decent, but we can do better.

When Jesus trained the disciples, his goal was to multiply himself. I don’t mean he wanted to create 12 clones, but rather 12 men who were capable of carrying on and extending his work. Yes they followed him, but once he left Earth they were meant to continue his work in new places and for new generations.

This is discipleship: training and teaching others to fulfill and extend a mission in ways that could not be done by yourself alone (for the record, Jesus could have done more by himself, but he chose to limit himself in part to set an example for us).

Moving through Kairos Circles

Randy spoke at LUG last night about how we can move through Kairos circles. If you have no idea what a kairos circle is, you need to watch this talk! Moving students through the circle is the primary method we use for discipling students. It is an effective way to help them understand their feelings, balance those feelings with truth, develop a plan to respond to those actions, and then they actually respond!

New Call to Worship Video

I’m pretty excited about this new call to worship video. We created it for our recent Advance Retreat and it was perfect for the Fall. Set to Psalms 24, Psalms 104, and the song “Time” by Hans Zimmer, the video demonstrates God’s glory all throughout Creation. Enjoy!

Not Afraid Music Video

We have yet to share our favorite music video on this site yet, so I think it is time. Last spring we filmed “Not Afraid” by David Dalton live at one of our LUG nights. It was so much fun!

The video turned out great and you can see the love our students have for worship better than ever before. Check it out!

What Were You Thinking: Episode 1

Our new video series for LUG premiered at the first LUG of the Fall last night! We had a great reaction from the students and had a great time making it. Here it is for your personal enjoyment!

Generation Salaam FAQ

Why do we do Generation Salaam? We want everyone to enter into eternity knowing and believing in the full redemptive work of Christ. Second of all it’s really fun, third it works. This is open to students and parents. If you have always wanted to get involved but not known where to start- this is a great place. Here are some more answers to common questions about Generation Salaam.

Generation Salaam FAQ

Q: What is Generation Salaam?

A: Generation Salaam seeks to bring together people from the East & West and Christians & Muslims for friendship and conversation about peace and the Kingdom of God.

Q: What does Generation Salaam Clarkston do?

A: Generation Salaam Clarkston goes to multiple apartment complexes in Clarkston to become friends with refugee families from around the world. The most established element of Gen Salaam is our kids program. We have four different kids programs where refugee children come to do crafts, play games, watch skits, and learn about the straight path to God – Jesus! We also love to build friendships with adults. We do this primarily through conversational English classes and job-skill trainings such as business classes and sewing projects. We put on a number of events throughout the year such as a back-to-school celebration, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas parties, and kids’ summer camps.

Q: Why do you do these things?

A: As followers of Jesus, we respond to His “Great Commandment” to love God and then love our neighbors (Matthew 22:36-40). These neighbors in Clarkston (from all over the world) have become our dear friends. And as with all friends, we want them to know and understand the full picture of God’s love displayed through Jesus!

Q: What is the goal of Generation Salaam?

A: The first goal of Generation Salaam is to form genuine friendships with these wonderful Clarkston families. Our hope is to serve them in whatever way possible. Also, the families we befriend are from all over the world and have a variety of faiths – we’re friends with people who are Catholic, Protestant, Hindu & Muslim. In all of our friendships, we hope to point our friends to Jesus because we believe He is the only way into the Kingdom of God.

Q: What are your core beliefs?

A: To see a complete list of our beliefs, feel free to read Grace Fellowship Church’s Statement of Faith (which is on every Generation Salaam application). Here are three main things that we focus on in every one of our trainings:

1. We believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God.

2. We believe Jesus is the only way to eternal relationship with God.

3. We believe we need a new life that only comes through the Holy Spirit regenerating our lives into a new person.

Q: Do you believe Allah is God?

A. We believe there is only one God. Allah is actually the Arabic word for God. When Spanish-speaking Christians pray, they address God as Dios. In the same way, when Arab people pray (both Christian and Muslim), they address God as Allah.

Q: Do you believe Isa is Jesus?

A: Again, we believe that there is only one Messiah – Jesus. When Jesus is mentioned in the Qur’an, He is called Isa al-Masih (Jesus the Messiah in Arabic). This is similar to an Italian person calling Jesus Gesù il Messia. Although Jesus is mentioned in the Qur’an several times, we believe the best account of Jesus is found in the four Gospels (or the Injeel in Arabic). We wholeheartedly and unapologetically affirm everything the Bible says about Jesus, and we want nothing more than to help others gain a similar understanding, regardless of the language they speak or the country from which they come

Q: Is what you’re doing Biblical?

A:! In all we do, we seek to follow Jesus’ example found in the Gospels and point people to Him.. Our perspective in our relationships with these people from many faiths is rooted in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, “For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them… To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.
