What Makes GSM Unique?

Like most student ministries, we want our students to grow closer to God and have a great time along the way. Our method for accomplishing this goal, however, is somewhat unique. While adults are involved in the discipleship process, we put the primary responsibility into the hands of students. We seek to proclaim God’s Kingdom in the lives of our students, so that they in turn can proclaim His Kingdom in the lives of their friends. Our students lead discipleship groups, preach the gospel on their school campuses, create videos, lead worship, extend hospitality, and do incredibly more as leaders than we ourselves could ever accomplish.

Student Led Discipleship, are you crazy?!

Yes. Yes we are crazy.

But it works! Our students do an incredible job as discipleship leaders, and if you don’t believe us you can hear some of their stories by clicking HERE. Here is what one High School student said:

“Being a middle school discipleship leader has helped me grow in my relationship with God so much. Each week, preparing a lesson has helped me to learn how dig into Scripture and really learn about God in new ways. I’ve never prayed for anything as hard as I have when I became a LUG Head. Everything that’s within me wants my LUG girls to know God in an intimate way.”

Is this the quick fix easy solution to all of our problems?

Sadly, no. Those don’t exist in real life.

It is no secret that youth ministry is having trouble finding success these days. Studies have shown that huge percentages of students are leaving the faith when they go to college. Studies have also shown that 1 of the primary reasons stay in thier faith upon arrival in college was that they were involved in mission or making a difference as a High School student.

When you allow a student to be a leader, they become invested in God’s work and they never want to stop. It is simply to satisfying! But it is not easy, and it cannot be done without Jesus at the center of everything.
